Capybaras!

Over the years Japan has apparently developed a craze in animal cafes, put simply cafes where you can grab a cuppa and interact with animals who reside there. Carys discovered there was a capybara cafe in Tokyo. Capybaras are native to South America so why they've ended up in Tokyo.... who knows? Securing a slot at this cafe is an achievement in itself, you have to be on the dot of the date turning over , two weeks in advance and the slots are gone in around three minutes ( it's like booking for Taylor Swift! ). So on the ball was I that I somehow booked two slots, ( the booking process wasn't the most sophisticated) so we cancelled one of them yesterday , and no doubt made someone's day who randomly checked and found a time that was free.

The cafe was out of the centre a little, but we eventually found it and enjoyed half an hour in the company of two capybaras, ( along with drinks) , interacted with them, including feeding them a snack of vegetables. Apparently they are sociable by nature and seemed more than happy to jump up.on the seats and engage with us. I' m always a little wary about human interaction with animals outside of an animals natural environment, but these seemed happy and well looked after, the cafe does limit the days they're open to give them a rest, and they do say that they might need to cancel/ close if the capybaras are not up to it.

This was on Carys's wish list to do, so glad she got to do it. Not sure that Chris was convinced though , and can't move away from calling them 'fat rats !!'
