Cup Noodles

We headed off to Yokohama , about 35 km from Tokyo and Japan's second largest city. It ' s a big port city, and historically important for the opening up of trade with the rest of the world back in the 19th century. The main reason for going was to visit the Cup Noodle Museum (as a fan of the cup noodle this was Carys's pick, and she's more likely to increase for consumption of cup noodles if she becomes a student). The museum is dedicated to the invention and history of cup noodles along with it's founder Momofuku Ando. And, you can also pay a little extra to design and make your own cup noodle which of course we did. It was very clever how they organised this, and probably one of the main reasons for the popularity of the museum. There is only so much you can say about cup noodles , I guess, but they did it very well and it was good fun. We also found out that Ando, at the age of 95 developed noodles which could be used by NASA astronauts!

We had a bit of a walk down to the sea / port front but there was nothing much else going on so we hopped on the train back to Tokyo. We got a little lost in changing lines , and ended up stuck going round and round in Yokohama station ( another HUGE station). We decided to exit and regroup, and came across a crowd gathered around a wrestling match going on outside the station entrance - random. Two guys were having a wrestle, there was a referee and one of the men seemed to be dressed in a police uniform. Another policeman was doing some commentary with a megaphone, and there were other policeman stood around watching. Goodness knows what that was all about but it was interesting to watch for a bit.

We did eventually make it back to Tokyo.

We got to design our own cup noodle flavour, within parameters. Catrin designed the flavour of the first cup noodle she's ever eaten!
